Honoring those who save lives, the Greater Fayetteville Chamber will host the 2023 Annual Public Safety Valor Awards on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Manna Church at 5117 Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville.

The Public Safety Valor Awards show the community appreciation to our first responders in Fayetteville and Cumberland County. The award recipients are nominated by their Chief or agency head from a range of law enforcement, fire/rescue and emergency management agencies that serve Cumberland County.

“We believe that our first responders deserve recognition for the bravery that they demonstrate every time they put on their uniform. This is our way of giving back and recognizing the extreme efforts taken in our community to keep us safe,” said Nat Robertson, president and CEO of the Greater Fayetteville Chamber, in a press release.

Awards include the following:

  • Valor Award – The highest award for valor and heroism, which is awarded in cases in which a public safety official knowingly placed themselves at risk of death or extreme bodily harm in the performance of an official act.
  • Lifesaving Award – This is awarded in recognition of official acts taken in a life-threatening situation where an individual’s life is in jeopardy, either medically or physically.
  • Award of Merit – This award recognizes outstanding public safety work which demonstrates initiative, ingenuity and/or diligence in the performance of his/her duties. For example, creating a new program or process, solving a cold case, detective work over a long period of time on a major initiative, etc.
  • People’s Choice Award – This award is selected from public nominations and awarded to someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

To nominate someone, use this google survey. Nominees should be individuals that work for Police, Fire or EMS services within Cumberland County that you can share a first person story about their act of heroism. The deadline to submit a nomination is Aug. 15.

This event is open to the public. Tickets are $25 and sponsorship opportunities are still available.

This event is brought to the community by Fayetteville Technical Community College, Highland Construction, Manna Church, Bass Pro Air Conditioning, Holmes Security, American Uniform Sales Inc., Fort Liberty Federal Credit Union, and Stoney Point Fire District.
