I’m sorry—what do you mean we’re already halfway through June? Wasn’t April last week?
You’ll have to forgive my confusion. You see, on Friday, June 5, just one day after a successful Power Breakfast, my dear husband brought home a cold—and, tragically, he took me down with him.
For the first time, I had to utilize a sick day, and my sense of time has been thrown off ever since. Upon my victorious return, the GFBJ team joined the community to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for the new Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine on June 11. This new addition to our medical and higher education community (just one page over on page 5) has been a long time coming!
We’ve covered this new medical school from its first announcement, to the groundbreaking on the build ing site, to now, as they’re about to welcome their first cohort of students.
I was also able to put to rest any question of me entering the medical field. Pictured above is a guided demonstration on intubating a patient that was available to guests. Under the watch of Dr. Mary Sukumar, I successfully intubated the patient! Unfortunately, due to the adrenaline, I pumped too much air too quickly, and his lungs probably exploded—but I did it!
I’ll leave the delicate balance of life and death to the trained professionals.
Which, speaking of, nominations will be opening soon for the return of our annual Health Care Heroes event. More information will be coming soon.
We hope you enjoy this issue as we take a look at Fayetteville’s mobile food scene. I’m already making plans to check out some of these food trucks. Once Upon a Bite (the cover story) is definitely on my “go-to” list, along with the Yinzers Truck (page 14). We also take a look at the incoming second Haymount Truck Stop location coming to Hoke Coun ty (page 10)!
