The City and Fayetteville firefighters will celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Fire Station 16 on Friday, May 8, at 10 a.m. The new station will be located at 1710 Cedar Creek Road.
The Fayetteville Fire Department (FFD) is relocating Fire Station 16 from its temporary location to a new permanent site at the corner of Cedar Creek Road and Fields Road. The current fire station, located at 1126 Cedar Creek Road, is a single-engine company station housed in a temporary station leased to the City from Cape Fear Medical Center.
This new facility will be approximately 11,000 square feet and will include living and working spaces for firefighters, two drive-through apparatus bays, a training and community meeting space, fitness areas, offices, a kitchen, dorm rooms and support spaces such as storage, decontamination and mechanical rooms. This location will also feature a playground for families to enjoy.
"This new facility will give our firefighters the space to operate safely and effectively, while also serving as a resource for the community,” said Chief Kevin Dove in a press release. “We're proud to break ground on something the community has needed for a long time."
Fire Station 16 is the first project funded by the City’s 2022 voter-approved $60 million Public Safety Bond. The total budget for Fire Station 16 is $10.8 million, including design, construction, equipment and project support services. The new station is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
Barr & Barr/HORUS Construction was selected as the Construction Manager, with Davis Kane Architects leading the design and Cummings Group performing Owner’s Advisor services.
Public Safety Bond future projects include a new Fire Station 9 and renovations to Fire Station 2.
