Downtown Dunn is a little bit sweeter thanks to Coffee on Broad by Erwin Mills Coffee Company. The coffee shop has rapidly become a community cornerstone, all thanks to the passion of owners Seth and Angela Gundersen.
The couple began with the launch of their coffee brand, Erwin Mills Coffee Company, in 2021. Initially, they sold their coffee in a local shop called Inspirational Grounds, but they wanted to expand further. In October 2022, they began operating Erwin Mills Coffee Trailer. The trailer allowed them to keep overhead costs low while reaching more customers, testing their concept and building brand recognition.
The success and revenue from the trailer helped them open their brick-and-mortar shop, Coffee on Broad, which officially opened on Feb. 21, 2024. The trailer was retired around the time the physical café became their main focus.
Coffee on Broad is located at 111 E Broad St. in Dunn. Drinks are made with their coffee beans and customers can sweeten their coffee with a variety of house made syrups. Signature drinks like the bananas foster and a standout caramel macchiato have become fast favorites, complemented by a rotating menu of seasonal specialties. Seth and Angela remain hands-on, fostering a close-knit team of seven and keeping quality at the heart of every cup.
“We started as a nobody in the area. Nobody knew us. We're from Wake County. We're not from Dunn, Dunn is a small town, but we have grown into a neighborhood favorite. Everybody comes here. This is where it all happens, at the coffee shop. People come in here and have meetings, old people, young people, younger people come in here to study…some people come in here and work. We have city leaders come in here. They'll have meetings, they'll hang out with their families,” shared Seth. “We like seeing it take shape and fly. So it's been a lot of fun. We've met so many awesome people…it's been amazing.”

Coffee on Broad is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays. Check out their Facebook page to stay up to date on new offerings and special events.
